In ruined postwar Budapest, a group of homeless people try to turn a derailed tram into shelter, then make getting it moving toward a supposedly unscathed city their goal.
The story
On Budapest’s outskirts, left in ruins by the Second World War bombings, a group of homeless people find a tram car that has toppled off the tracks. They work together to try to right the heavy car and use it as makeshift shelter. After finding supplies, they stockpile them inside, where the car must be guarded. Their goal then becomes getting the tram moving again toward a city they have heard supposedly came through the war unscathed.
