Full plot (contains spoilers)

After a local hermit named Henry becomes infected by a flesh-eating disease, he wanders into a camp where a group of college students are celebrating October break. One student, Bert, accidentally shoots the disfigured Henry. As the group realizes the danger, the infection begins to spread among them through physical contact and contaminated water. Characters like Marcy and Karen become increasingly symptomatic, while others like Paul and Jeff attempt to navigate the crisis. The infection leads to gruesome physical transformations and violence. Paul eventually discovers the truth about the water supply and the extent of the infection. The film concludes with the characters facing the consequences of their isolation, while the infection continues to spread in the surrounding area, eventually affecting others in the vicinity, including a local convenience store.
