A girl's search for her missing sister leads her into a mysterious temporal rift on a Louisiana-Texas border lake.
The story
Ellie and her family live on Caddo Lake on the Louisiana-Texas border. When her stepsister Anna vanishes near the lake, the community begins a search. While exploring a dry section of the lakebed, Ellie discovers that returning to her home places her three days in the past. As she desperately tries to find Anna, she realizes she has traveled even further back in time. Simultaneously, a man named Paris, a dredger, investigates his mother's mysterious death and discovers a physical barrier on the lake that leads to a series of temporal anomalies.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Ellie, living on Caddo Lake, finds herself traveling back in time while searching for her missing stepsister, Anna. Her journey through the lake's receding beds leads her into different points in the past. Meanwhile, a dredger named Paris investigates his mother's death and crosses a barrier on the lake that transports him through various years, including 1952, 2003, and 2022. The paths of the two characters converge when Paris, in 2022, takes Ellie's boat and is arrested, only to realize the woman he saved in 1952 was his own mother. In 2005, Ellie finds a necklace belonging to Anna and discovers that the woman she encountered was her mother, Celeste, and the baby she held was herself. Ellie eventually realizes that Anna is her grandmother and Paris is her father. The film concludes with Ellie reuniting with her mother, showing her a photo of Anna from 1952 to explain that both Anna and Paris were ultimately safe.
