The story

Lizzy works as a prostitute for pimp Kante; at a club she dances on a pole and at home makes jam for her mother. One day she witnesses Kante murder someone by throwing them out a window. Spotted, she escapes and seeks refuge by applying for a secretary job at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), where she can start immediately. She secretly settles in the basement to stay safe from Kante after hours. The LKA must also investigate the murder, leaving Lizzy hiding within the very institution that must uncover the crime she witnessed.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Lizzy works as a prostitute for the pimp Kante. In the opening scene, we see her alternating between dancing on a pole at the club and making jam at home for her mother. One day, she witnesses Kante murder someone by throwing them out of a window. Lizzy is spotted, but manages to escape. To hide, she applies for a job as a secretary at the State Criminal Police Office (LKA), and is able to start immediately. Earlier in the film, she had already made a risqué appearance there: some employees had hired her to surprise their colleague Konrad, who was grieving the loss of his wife, shot while on duty, with an office date on his birthday, in an attempt to cheer him up. But Konrad had mistaken her for an applicant for the office job and, believing she was trying to improve her chances through such “favors,” had declined. Lizzy even manages to secretly settle in the LKA’s basement so she can stay safe from Kante outside working hours. She ventures out to visit her mother only one night. When she confesses what she really does for a living, she learns that her mother had known for a long time but kept silent because she was afraid of losing her daughter. Naturally, since she has never worked in an office before, she is rather clumsy at first. But she gradually gets the hang of the job and wins over her colleagues with her cheerful, straightforward nature. They also stand up for her when the chief, who has caught the LKA staff in the middle of a wild party in the basement, suspects that she was the “instigator.” Now the murder committed by Kante has to be solved. Afraid of being exposed, Lizzy sends an anonymous witness statement to the LKA by letter. She and Konrad have long since fallen in love. But when Konrad learns that she is the witness they are looking for—and therefore a prostitute—he leaves her. After seeing her abused friend and colleague, who has been keeping silent out of fear, in the interrogation room, Lizzy finally agrees to testify against the perpetrator. While almost all the colleagues are out on an operation, Kante manages to break into the LKA with the help of a corrupt police officer he has under his thumb over gambling debts, and tries to kill Lizzy as an inconvenient witness. After a chase through the building, Kante dies in a fall down the stairs. The mole is arrested. Lizzy and Konrad reconcile, and she decides to give up prostitution and work with the police in future, drawing on her knowledge of that world.
