A shy girl with telekinetic powers faces a tragic fate after a cruel prank at her senior prom.

The story

Carrie White is a shy, unpopular girl from Ewen High School in Maine. While experiencing her first menstrual period, she is ridiculed by classmates who record the incident and post it online. Her mother, Margaret, is a religious fanatic who believes the girl's burgeoning telekinetic abilities are a sign of sin. As the school's teacher tries to mediate the conflict, Carrie's powers begin to grow. When a cruel prank is orchestrated by a classmate to humiliate her at the senior prom, the situation spirals out of control, forcing Carrie to confront her isolation and the dangerous power she possesses.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Carrie White, a shy girl in Maine, is bullied by peers and strictly controlled by her religious mother, Margaret, who views Carrie's telekinesis as a demonic influence. After a humiliating incident in the locker room is shared online, Carrie begins to consciously harness her powers. A classmate, Chris Hargensen, orchestrates a cruel prank at the senior prom, involving a bucket of blood and a video of Carrie's humiliation. When the prank is executed, Carrie's telekinesis reacts violently, causing a deadly catastrophe at the school. Following the massacre, Carrie returns home where a confrontation with her mother leads to a violent climax. In the aftermath, it is revealed that Carrie may have survived the destruction of her home. An alternate ending suggests a supernatural connection between Carrie and a pregnant classmate, Sue Snell.
