The story
MI6 operative James Bond is promoted to 00 agent after a mission in Prague. He is tasked with a high-stakes mission to stop a terrorism financier, Le Chiffre, who is using a large sum of money to fund a terrorist attack on an aerospace manufacturer. To trap Le Chiffre, MI6 enters Bond into a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro. Bond is paired with Vesper Lynd, a British Treasury agent. The mission is designed to force Le Chiffre to seek asylum in exchange for information on his clients, while Bond must navigate the dangers of the high-stakes game and the threat of the financier's reach.

After being promoted to 00 status, James Bond is tasked with stopping Le Chiffre, an Albanian banker financing terrorism. After a failed investment leads to a high-stakes poker tournament at the Casino Royale in Montenegro, Bond is entered into the game to force Le Chiffre into a trap. Bond is paired with Vesper Lynd, a British Treasury agent. During the tournament, Bond faces various threats, including a betrayal by a contact and a physical confrontation with a local militant. Bond eventually wins the tournament, but Le Chiffre kidnaps Vesper. Bond is tortured but refuses to reveal the location of the winnings. After a rescue, Bond and Vesper fall in love, and Bond briefly leaves MI6. However, he discovers Vesper is a double agent who betrayed him to save his life. Bond tracks her to a Venetian palace, where a confrontation leads to her death. Bond eventually returns to service and confronts the mastermind, Mr. White, at a residence in Lake Como.
