The wand is passed on to the local history museum, where art historian Dr. Katharina Metzler wants to obtain it for auction. After learning from history books that Catweazle’s disappearance was followed by a destructive fire, Benny and Lisa join Catweazle in trying to recover the wand so he can return to his own time and avert the disaster.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
While fleeing from the prince, the magician Catweazle accidentally transports himself from the year 1020 to the year 2020. Benny Lenz finds his magic wand, Anawandur, and takes it home. Angry at the mess his son has made, Benny’s father gives the wand to the Trautmanns as firewood. They happen to be the parents of Lisa, Benny’s crush. The Trautmanns, in turn, pass it on to the local history museum. Meanwhile, art historian Dr. Katharina Metzler does everything she can to get hold of the wand and have it auctioned off through an auction house. From history books, Benny and Lisa learn that after Catweazle disappeared, the prince had his hut burned down, causing a huge fire that also destroyed the prince’s castle. The magician’s beloved animals also died in the hut. So the three of them do everything they can to get the wand back, so that the magician can return to his own time in time to prevent the disaster. In the end, Catweazle, Lisa, Benny, and Benny’s father manage to outwit the media representatives gathered at the museum for a press conference and get the wand into their possession. Catweazle can then return to his own century, and the prince’s castle, which had indeed been destroyed, appears undamaged and lit up above the village in the present day.
