An aspiring influencer and her best friend are swept through a magic mirror into a fairy-tale kingdom, where their own plans collide with its enchanted rules.

The story

Chantal Ackermann is still trying to make it as an influencer, but has hardly any followers, and she doubts she will achieve anything, so she resists starting vocational training. Her best friend Zeynep is hoping for a legal-assistant training position. When Chantal gets hold of the letter confirming Zeynep has been offered the job, she keeps it from her and focuses instead on an Instagram contest whose prize is an advertising deal. While the two film a contest post, an antique magic mirror transports them to a fairy-tale world. A fairy explains that the portal home will open again in 24 hours. Chantal sees the strange new world as a chance to create content, but she and Zeynep soon find themselves caught up in its royal intrigues and magical rules.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Chantal Ackermann is still trying to make it as an influencer, but she has hardly any followers. She believes she will never achieve anything anyway, so she does not want to start vocational training. Her best friend, Zeynep, is hoping to get a training position as a legal assistant. When Chantal gets hold of the letter confirming Zeynep has been offered the job, she keeps it from her. Chantal would rather enter an Instagram contest where the prize is an advertising deal with a chewing-gum manufacturer. While filming a post for the contest, the two travel to the fairy-tale world through an antique magic mirror, which they think is a social-media gimmick. The fairy Funkelchen tells them they have 24 hours before the portal back to their world opens again. Chantal is immediately thrilled and wants to use the time to create content for the ad. The two friends learn that Chantal is being mistaken for a princess. They become friends with Princess Amalia, who is involved with Artolf at court. He is trying to pull a sword from a stone so he can serve as a Round Table knight to King Wilderich. Chantal also learns that she is Sleeping Beauty and will soon fall into an enchanted sleep. She and Zeynep try to prevent this, setting a trap for the witch Sansara. As a result, Chantal is freed from the sleeping curse. Chantal wants Prince Bosco, who reminds her of Danger, to wake her with a kiss so she can make a video. But the attempt fails, the mirror breaks, and Prince Bosco is accidentally put under the curse. To repair the mirror, they need magic, which they can find only in the dark forest. Chantal and Zeynep set off with Aladin, a stable boy. In the dark forest, they encounter the witch Sansara, whose help they have to ask for. They learn that King Wilderich banished Sansara and her sisters, who used to be midwives, because he was afraid someone might find the blue diamond. Chantal convinces Sansara that she is the one who can free the fairy-tale kingdom from the tyrannical king. Zeynep stays with Sansara to train as a witch, while Chantal and Aladin return to the palace to prepare the spell. They grow closer, and Chantal learns that Aladin has never stolen anything and dreams of a life without worries, having fled Baghdad in the past. He has also never heard of a flying carpet, a genie, or Jasmine. At court, Chantal tries to wake Prince Bosco, but the attempts fail because Bosco is actually in love with his stable boy. He wakes only when the stable boy kisses him. To hide his homosexuality, he claims that he was the one who woke Chantal with a kiss. The king then has the wedding preparations made. Chantal plays along because Bosco is blackmailing her with his knowledge that she is not a princess. Amalia pulls the sword from the stone, but Artolf claims that he was the one who did it. Chantal is horrified and tries to encourage Amalia to speak up. Zeynep is now a witch, while Chantal has prepared everything. They manage to repair the mirror, but then Zeynep finds out that Chantal withheld the letter confirming her job offer. At that very moment, Bosco’s mother bursts in and thinks the two girls are witches. She also learns the truth about her son’s feelings. Zeynep is captured, while Chantal manages to escape. She tries to find the blue diamond to stop King Wilderich from burning Zeynep. With help from Aladin, who has since found the magic lamp, she confronts the dragon guarding the diamond and wins it over to her side with Snapchat. Together with the witch Sansara, they overthrow the king and free his wife, who had been trapped in a painting. Artolf tries to kill Chantal with the sword, but Amalia can control it because she was the one who pulled it from the stone and therefore has power over it. Amalia becomes the queen’s first female Round Table knight. Zeynep and Chantal return to their world through the magic mirror. The two friends reconcile. Chantal decides to take a voluntary job.
