Full plot (contains spoilers)
Retired police chief Richard Linville is the victim of a fatal attack by a masked intruder. His daughter Kate, a London detective, then travels there. She not only arranges the funeral but also begins her own investigation alongside the stalled inquiry led by local police chief Caleb Hale. At Kate’s urging, Caleb’s assistant Jane identifies former inmate Denis Shove as the prime suspect, as he had threatened Linville after his conviction. Shove has since been released and gone into hiding. After further crimes, Kate is confronted with incriminating information about her father that forces her to revise her previous image of him. Working with the overwhelmed local police chief Hale proves difficult. The manhunt escalates: Shove takes a family hostage at a remote estate and seriously injures the father. As the investigators pursue their new lead, the mother and her child find themselves in a desperate situation.
