A journalist investigating her friend’s three-year disappearance follows a lead to a woman who may match the missing person’s photograph.
The story
Three years after Elaine Dawson vanished on her way to a wedding, her friend Rosanna Hamilton, a London journalist, begins investigating. Elaine had stayed with Mark, a lawyer, after airport chaos, and he was reportedly the last person to see her. Police could not prove that Mark had committed a crime, though he has no alibi. Mark believes Elaine chose to disappear, a possibility that gives Rosanna hope her friend may still be alive. After Rosanna discusses the case on television, a viewer contacts her with a promising lead: a woman renting a room from him resembles Elaine in the missing woman’s photograph. Rosanna and Mark travel to the address outside London, unaware of the risks.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After Elaine Dawson vanished without a trace three years ago while on her way to a wedding, her friend, London journalist Rosanna Hamilton, begins conducting her own inquiries. Her trail leads her to Mark, the lawyer who was reportedly the last person to see Elaine after she stayed at his place because of chaos at the airport. Despite his lack of an alibi, the police were never able to prove that he had committed a crime. While Mark assumes Elaine deliberately went into hiding, his claim gives Rosanna hope that her friend might still be alive. When Rosanna discusses her case on a TV talk show, a viewer unexpectedly gets in touch, claiming to have a woman renting a room from him who matches the missing woman’s photograph. Together with Mark, Rosanna sets out for the address outside London, unaware of the risks.
