The communist guerrilla fighter, assassinated at the age of thirty-nine, became a political icon of the twentieth-century left, although his image, work, and thought continue to endure in the twenty-first century. The documentary aims to disentangle and examine in detail the most intimate aspects of his life, as well as his education, career, and the foundations for building a new world. Specifically, a collection of personal artifacts allows viewers to trace the revolutionary’s journey from his brief stay in Argentina, through his formative trip across Latin America, the crossing and landing of the Granma, the Cuban Revolution, his visit to the Congo, the Ñancahuazú guerrilla campaign in Bolivia, and finally his execution by firing squad at La Higuera at the hands of the Bolivian army.
