Full plot (contains spoilers)
Victor (Jean Rochefort) is an aging contract killer who lives under the authority of an abusive mother. He takes a liking to Antoine (Guillaume Depardieu) and decides to make him his apprentice. To do so, they must kill Renée (Marie Trintignant), who sells forgeries of priceless paintings by renowned artists, but nothing goes as planned. In this first film, the director makes great use of an aging man with a thoroughly British sangfroid. This gives us some amusing exchanges: the heroine, who had been forbidden to give out Victor’s secret mailing address, turns up accompanied by her kidnappers ... Victor asks her, worriedly, “Did they torture you?” To which she innocently replies, “No, no, I confessed right away!”
