Ella, the kindhearted daughter of a wealthy merchant, is forced into servitude by her cruel stepmother, Lady Tremaine, and two jealous stepsisters after her father's death. While exploring the woods, she meets Prince Kit, a palace apprentice. When a royal ball is announced to find a bride for the prince, Ella seeks to attend, aided by a fairy godmother who provides a magical gown and glass slippers. At the ball, she and Kit fall in love, but she flees at midnight, leaving behind a glass slipper. After the King issues a proclamation to find the woman who wore the slipper, Lady Tremaine tries to hide Ella.
