Full plot (contains spoilers)

Michael Newman, a workaholic architect, acquires a prototype universal remote from a man named Morty that allows him to control his reality. He initially uses it to skip inconveniences like traffic and arguments. However, the remote begins to fast-forward automatically. After skipping a year to reach a promotion, he finds himself in marriage counseling with his wife, Donna, and his dog has died. Later, a misunderstanding leads him to skip 10 years into the future, where he is a wealthy but lonely and obese CEO, his children are estranged, and his wife is divorced. After a series of mishaps, he skips another six years and learns he has cancer. He eventually realizes his father died while he was at work and confronts Morty, who reveals he is an Angel of Death. After a final jump to 2029, where he sees his family's struggles, Michael has a heart attack and awakens back in 2006. He realizes it was a warning, discards the remote, and chooses to spend his time with his family.
