A young boy's life is upended when he begins hearing a mysterious voice emanating from the walls of his bedroom.
The story
Peter is a shy, bullied, eight-year-old boy living with his overbearing and emotionally distant parents, Carol and Mark. He earns sympathy, though, from his substitute teacher, Miss Devine. Peter wishes to go trick-or-treating on Halloween night, but his parents forbid him due to the disappearance of a young girl in the neighborhood several years ago. Later that night, Peter is woken up by the sound of tapping from the inside of a wall in his bedroom. His parents deny these occurrences, insisting that he is imagining them. Over the next few days, Peter talks with a voice coming from the wall, which claims to be a girl trapped by his parents.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Peter, a bullied boy with overbearing parents, begins hearing a voice from his bedroom wall. The voice claims to be his sister, Sarah, whom his parents hid away because she was born deformed. The voice manipulates Peter into believing his parents are evil. After Peter is punished for his behavior at school, his parents lock him in the basement, where he finds a pit. The voice eventually reveals the truth: his parents murdered a girl who tried to help Sarah. Encouraged by the voice, Peter poisons his parents. Before dying, his mother warns him not to let the girl out. Peter opens a hidden door, and Sarah emerges as a grotesque, feral being. She reveals she has been manipulating him to take revenge. After a group of bullies is killed by Sarah, Peter and his teacher, Miss Devine, attempt to escape. They eventually manage to trap Sarah in a pit, but she remains a looming threat in the shadows.
