Full plot (contains spoilers)

Roberto Monti is a young man passionate about cars. Until he was eighteen, he had been unwillingly kept at the boarding school his father had founded. After finishing his studies, he first finds work as a mechanic in a garage, then as a car salesman. His job allows him to meet many women, young and old alike, with whom his good looks make it easy for him to have brief affairs: a film actress, a rally driver, a nuclear physicist... Among the women Roberto has romantic adventures with is Laura, a thirty-five-year-old baroness who runs a fashion house, while her friend Olga owns a helicopter factory. But his heart belongs to Irene, who is still a teenager: for her, Roberto gives up his job and his friendship with Laura. When he starts looking for a position, Olga, Irene's aunt, decides to hire him at her company; this allows the girl to tighten the strands of her romantic net and finally persuade Roberto to marry her.
