A frustrated aspiring playwright faces mounting tensions in her marriage, family, and work.

The story

Rosa leads an automatic, almost unhappy life, far from the future she imagined. A more conservative person than her progressive, divorced intellectual parents, she is often at odds with them, particularly her mother, in a relationship clouded by bitterness. At home, her marriage to Dado, an anthropologist, is strained by poor communication and seems close to collapse. Their daughters, Nara and Juliana, are entering adolescence amid conflict and a feeling that no one is taking responsibility for the situation. Rosa also supports the household through a frustrating job that stifles her and erodes her ambition to become a playwright. With these pressures converging, she must confront the dilemmas of this difficult stage of life.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Rosa (Maria Ribeiro) leads an automatic, almost unhappy life, since nothing is as she expected. She is the daughter of Clarice (Clarisse Abujamra) and Homero (Jorge Mautner), divorced intellectuals from São Paulo’s upper-middle class who hold progressive views and get along well. More conservative than they are, Rosa is often at odds with them, especially with her mother, in an ambiguous relationship clouded by bitterness. Things at home are not going well either: her marriage to Dado (Paulo Vilhena), an anthropologist, is on the verge of collapsing because of the lack of communication between them, while the onset of adolescence for their daughters, Nara (Sophia Valverde) and Juliana (Annalara Prates), is marked by conflict and a sense that no one is committed to dealing with the situation. As if that were not enough, Rosa also supports the household with a frustrating job that stifles her and, day by day, kills her desire to become a playwright. Amid all her family and professional conflicts, she must confront the dilemmas of a peculiar stage in her life, when everything seems far removed from the false perfect life she had imagined.
