A button salesman’s striking resemblance to a master burglar enables a string of sensational robberies, while he falls for the burglar’s mistress.
The story
Gabriel Dupon, an unassuming button salesman, bears a striking resemblance to Manuel Ismora, a photographer who is also a master burglar. Ismora takes advantage of their likeness to carry out sensational robberies. At the same time, Dupon falls in love with Coraline, Ismora’s mistress, who is charmed by the tenderness of the seemingly unremarkable man. The plot sets Dupon’s romantic feelings alongside the criminal opportunities created by his resemblance to Ismora.
