A crippled passenger plane is on course to crash into downtown Berlin, giving its crew just 90 minutes to prevent disaster.
The story
On the fictional EA-714 flight from Nice to Munich, a passenger aircraft collides shortly after takeoff with a small sport plane. The impact tears open the cargo hold and damages the hydraulics, leaving the aircraft without functioning controls. Calculations predict that it will crash in downtown Berlin within 90 minutes. Captain Winkler and co-pilot Niclas Sedlaczek believe their only chance is to repair the damaged controls in the breached cargo hold, while crew members in the air and on the ground race against time. An order to shoot down the aircraft has already been issued, and the airline’s head has given up on the passengers.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
The film is about the fictional EA-714 flight from Nice to Munich. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft collides with a small sport aircraft, tearing a hole in the cargo hold and damaging the hydraulics, which causes all the controls on board to fail. According to calculations, the unmaneuverable plane will crash in the middle of downtown Berlin within 90 minutes. The crew, both in the air and on the ground, desperately try to avert the disaster. Captain Winkler and co-pilot Niclas Sedlaczek see only one chance of survival: the faulty controls in the breached cargo hold must be repaired. But there is not much time. An order to shoot down the aircraft has already been issued, and the head of the airline has already given up on the passengers. After engineer Hubert “Hub” Roob’s unsuccessful attempt, André, a young boy, succeeds in repairing the controls in a cramped area at the rear of the plane under Hub’s guidance. The aircraft makes a controlled emergency landing. Although it is largely destroyed, the fuselage and the passengers remain unharmed.
