Full plot (contains spoilers)
After a career-ending injury, Gordon Bombay is recruited to coach Team USA for the Junior Goodwill Games in Los Angeles. He reunites his former 'Ducks' players with five new recruits: Luis Mendoza, Dwayne Robertson, Julie 'The Cat' Gaffney, Kenny Wu, and Dean Portman. While the team initially finds success, Bombay becomes distracted by the lure of celebrity and a luxurious lifestyle, leading to a devastating 12–1 loss against Iceland. Following a confrontation with the team's tutor, Michelle McKay, and a meeting with his mentor's brother, Jan, Bombay refocuses on the game. The team learns a new 'knucklepuck' shot from Russ Tyler. In the championship rematch against Iceland, the Ducks face heavy penalties and a 4-1 deficit. After a rousing speech, the team rallies to tie the game. In a tense five-shot shootout, Julie Gaffney makes a game-winning save. The team returns to Minnesota to celebrate their victory.
