Full plot (contains spoilers)
Realizing that cancer is now bringing him close to death, Tiziano Terzani writes to his son Folco, asking him to come to Orsigna and spend his final days with him. His son’s return becomes the occasion for an intense conversation between them. Against the backdrop of the Pistoian Apennines, Terzani tells Folco about his life as a correspondent in Asia, his spiritual experiences, and his reflections on life and humanity, while also sharing his state of mind as he faces the end. The Florentine journalist manages to detach himself spiritually from his body, enabling him to better withstand the suffering caused by his illness and to convey a clear sense of serenity to his family. He asks them not to cry, but to laugh after his death, because he has attained inner peace and is no longer afraid of death.
