Full plot (contains spoilers)
A wealthy merchant and shipping magnate, Ellington, sends his sailing ship, the brig “Santa Maria,” carrying a cargo of diamonds. As one might expect, such valuable cargo attracts the greed of many sinister characters. The cargo is stolen, and the brig is found at sea without a crew. Suspicion quickly falls on the captain of the Santa Maria, but his son, John Holl, refuses to let the matter rest—especially since he is engaged to the shipowner’s daughter. The young man sets out to solve the mystery of the audacious diamond robbery and clear his father’s name. He succeeds through the vigorous use of both his wits and his physical strength. Ellington then also gives his consent for him to marry his daughter.
