Das Glaszimmer (2020)

In the spring of 1945, shortly before the end of World War II, Anna and her 11-year-old son Felix have to flee bomb-ravaged Munich for the countryside, to the estate of a deceased aunt. In the attic of their new home, Felix discovers a mysterious “glass room,” where he can play, take his mind off things, and escape the bleak everyday reality of the war. He soon finds a new friend in Karri. Like his father, Feik, the local Nazi Party group leader, Karri is a committed Nazi who firmly believes in final victory. Anna struggles to pretend to be a committed National Socialist, but Felix is drawn ever deeper into the grip of Nazi propaganda and is proud that his father, Bernd, is serving at the front. Just as Felix and his mother have settled into their new surroundings, Feik tells them that the father and husband has been killed. But one night, Bernd unexpectedly knocks at their window. He has not been killed; he has fled the front. Felix is torn between believing the horrific stories his father tells about the war and reporting him as a deserter to Karri’s father.
