A documentary filmmaker’s interview with a successful author turns into a tense game about a shared past neither of them understands in the same way.
The story
Unsuccessful documentary filmmaker Lukas Schmidt visits successful author Agnes Lehner in a hotel room to interview her about her new book. The encounter soon takes an unexpected turn: Lukas says they knew each other in high school, graduating together more than ten years earlier, and were involved in a disastrous accident. Agnes does not remember him or the incident. She agrees to take part in a question-and-answer game, as Lukas tries to prompt memories of a crime he says they committed together long ago. As the night continues, the interview becomes a contest over what either of them recalls and what may be true.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Unsuccessful documentary filmmaker Lukas Schmidt interviews successful author Agnes Lehner in a hotel room about her new book. During the conversation, it emerges that Lukas did not really come to make a film. He claims that they have met before: more than ten years ago, they both graduated from high school together and were involved in a disastrous accident. Agnes, however, cannot remember and agrees to a question-and-answer game through which Lukas tries to awaken in her the memory of a crime they supposedly committed together long ago. They become increasingly entangled in a web of desire and identity, and the longer the night goes on, the farther lies and truth drift apart.
