At the family’s large villa, Henriette soon finds Bristol resistant to her new minder and to the changes surrounding her father’s wedding. Bristol shoplifts on a dare, sneaks off to a party in Victoria and clashes with Pia. Henriette tries to encourage the family to think of themselves as blended, but distrust between them complicates her efforts.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
Henriette Höffner, a childminder from Munich, is hired by German-born entrepreneur Christopher Hunter for a job on Vancouver Island. Henriette is supposed to look after his 13-year-old daughter, Bristol, so that he can prepare for his second wedding, to his new partner, Pia Schmidt. When she arrives in Canada at the huge villa, Henriette quickly realizes that Bristol is not going to make things easy for her. The teenager shoplifts on a dare, secretly goes to a party in Victoria, and swears at her future stepmother, Pia. Henriette suggests the idea of a “blended family,” but the different parties distrust one another. After a visit to the beach, Bristol realizes how much her father and his new girlfriend, Pia, love each other. Even news about Pia’s father’s past criminal dealings can no longer shake that. Bristol accepts her father’s new partner as a friend, while remaining close to her own mother. And a baby is already on the way, too.
