The story

Delighted by the vivid colors, he explores, but a sunbeam turns him black. People are afraid of him, and he causes all sorts of havoc.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

The Little Ghost lives with his best friend, the eagle owl, at Eulenstein Castle. His greatest wish is to see the world in daylight. One day, when the Little Ghost wakes up, he realizes that it is actually bright daytime, not night. Delighted, he explores the world in daylight and rejoices in its vivid colors. But a sunbeam turns him black, and people are afraid of him, so he causes all sorts of havoc. When the Little Ghost also throws the historical festival commemorating the Swedes’ siege of the town into chaos because he thinks General Torstenson, whom he drove away long ago, has returned, the eagle owl and three children help him. They ask the master clockmaker to reset the wrongly set town hall clock—from noon to midnight—since the ghost has to obey the time it shows. The following night, the Little Ghost really does wake up and can return to the castle to be with the eagle owl. Then, when a moonbeam strikes him, he discovers with delight that he has turned white again.
