Full plot (contains spoilers)

Miriam works for a party service. At Friedrich’s 60th birthday party, she jumps out of a large cake wearing very little, whereupon the birthday boy suffers a heart attack and the incident is reported in the newspaper. Christian Zeiler is an investment adviser whose wedding to Katharina Buchheim is just around the corner. Her family owns Buchheim Bank. Her future father-in-law, Karl Buchheim, is not at all pleased about the wedding, not least because he suspects that Christian is only interested in Katharina’s money. Karl therefore offers Christian a large sum of money to call off the wedding to his daughter. Christian refuses the offer, and is also on the run from an angry creditor to whom he had sold a failed investment. Christian’s best friends are the gynecologist Dr. Victor Stolze and Paul, a gay man who works in airport security. At the bachelor party organized by his friends Paul and Victor, Christian meets Miriam, and the two spend a night together. After Christian discovers that Miriam is being kept by Karl Buchheim, he decides to go ahead and marry Katharina after all. But at the altar, Christian leaves Katharina standing there and sets off to find Miriam. Katharina tells her mother, Marie-Luise, and her father that she is now going to marry Christian’s friend Victor, with whom Marie-Luise is having a secret affair. One of Christian’s investors learns by mail that his investment was not lost after all and that he is also receiving a 15 percent return. Miriam has since quit her job as a “cake girl” and her affair with Karl Buchheim, and returned to her former job as a nursery-school teacher, which she had held until the after-school program closed. At a birthday party for one of the children at Villa Kunterbunt, where Miriam now works, Christian appears dressed as a clown. He tells her that he did not get married after all, and Christian and Miriam kiss.
