A nameless young woman searches an anonymous city each day for somewhere to sleep, never staying for more than one night.
The story
In 14 relatively short episodes framed by a prologue and an epilogue, a nameless young woman with no known background searches an anonymous city, probably Berlin, each day for somewhere to sleep. She mainly finds refuge with men of different ages and social backgrounds, but never stays longer than one night. Asked who she is, she says she is a writer and shows a notebook whose story ends after the first sentence of its second chapter. Distant in manner and tone, she judges herself, the people around her, and neoliberal society.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
In 14 relatively short episodes, each framed by a prologue and an epilogue, the film portrays a young woman with no name or background who looks every day for somewhere to sleep in an anonymous city, probably Berlin. She mainly finds refuge with men of different ages and social backgrounds, but never stays for more than one night. When asked who she is, she replies that she is a writer and shows a notebook containing a story that goes no further than the first sentence of the second chapter. Distant in her gestures and tone, she repeatedly passes judgment on herself, her counterparts, and neoliberal society. She speaks several times about happiness, saying, for example: “I am unhappy so that people like you can be happy.”
