Years after hiding a stolen pearl inside a skeleton, Attaché van der Velden encounters it again during a visit to Consul Markutius.
The story
During his student days, Attaché van der Velden steals a pearl and hides it inside a skeleton he is preparing to avoid arrest. Years later, during a visit to Consul Markutius, he discovers that same skeleton. The pearl is concealed in one of its lower legs, and van der Velden tries to remove that leg without being noticed, using a deception. The recovery attempt unfolds during his visit, as he seeks to take the hidden pearl without drawing attention to himself.

During his student days, Attaché van der Velden stole a pearl. To avoid being arrested, he hid it inside a skeleton he was preparing. Years later, during a visit to Consul Markutius, he discovers that very skeleton. Van der Velden tries to steal unnoticed the lower leg containing the pearl by means of a deception. But Joe Deebs sees through him, especially since van der Velden made the mistake of replacing the right lower leg with a left one.
