Full plot (contains spoilers)
Bud Jablonski is a blue-collar father who provides for his family by hunting and killing vampires under the guise of being a pool cleaner. After killing two vampires and finding their fangs are not worth much at a pawn shop, Bud seeks to rejoin the vampire hunting union. Union boss Ralph Seeger allows him a trial period on the day shift under the supervision of Seth. Meanwhile, a wealthy vampire named Audrey discovers Bud's identity and plans to create an army of vampires. Despite some protocol violations, Seth helps Bud because of his financial situation. After Bud and Seth destroy a nest of vampires, Audrey threatens Bud's family, revealing the elderly vampire he killed was her daughter. Bud's ex-wife and daughter are taken hostage, and Seth is turned into a vampire. Bud, Seth, and an outcast vampire named Heather, along with Big John, assault Audrey's stronghold. During the fight, Big John sacrifices himself in an explosion. Bud eventually defeats Audrey. When Seeger tries to kick Bud out of the union, Seth uses loopholes to keep him in. In the end, Big John survives the explosion.
