Full plot (contains spoilers)
Klaas, the son of an emotionally cold but very successful businessman, decides to devote himself entirely to smuggling and dealing in hashish. He wants to become the biggest before hashish is legalized, which he believes will happen in the near future. Above all, he wants to measure himself against his father, whom he aims to surpass in everything. Together with his best buddy, kickboxer Adri, and the love of his life, Annet, he manages to gain control of the hashish trade. For a while, he is even the biggest in the Netherlands, and he is surrounded by money and luxury. Annet begs him to stop dealing, because she believes it is dangerous. But Klaas wants to “keep going just a little longer.” He still clings to the belief that hashish is going to be legalized. But it is not legalized, and, slowly but surely, violence takes hold of Klaas, no matter how much he thinks he can remain above it. He even has Adri murdered when he suspects him of betrayal. Later, Klaas discovers that Adri was not the traitor, but his own girlfriend, Annet, was. When Klaas comes home one evening, he finds Annet asleep in bed. He shoots her dead in her sleep and then sets the house on fire. Shortly afterward, the police discover Donkers’ largest hashish stash, “The Big Mountain.” So there must still be another traitor involved. Klaas orders his henchmen to liquidate all the suspects without conducting any investigation. Shortly afterward, Klaas himself is liquidated. His greed drove him to his downfall.
