A weary knight finds himself bound to a mysterious amulet that summons ancient evils.

The story

Deathstalker, a former knight, scavenges a battlefield and acquires a mysterious golden amulet from a dying man. After a two-headed troll attacks him in a tavern seeking the artifact, Deathstalker attempts to discard it, but the amulet inexplicably reappears in his possession. Seeking answers, he consults a witch named Toralva, who warns him that the amulet is bound to him and that a great evil is rising. To break the bond, Deathstalker must find a wizard capable of translating the amulet's writing, leading him into a dangerous journey through caves and across treacherous lands.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

After consulting the witch Toralva, Deathstalker enters a cave system to find a wizard. He escapes man-eating serpents with a chest containing Daedelad (Doodad), a wizard he recruits to help translate the amulet. They learn an ancient necromancer, Necromemnon, is seeking the amulet and are attacked by dreadites led by Deathstalker's old friend, Jotak. They team up with a thief named Brisbayne to raid a crypt for a translation scroll. After surviving a stone titan and a mummy, Doodad breaks the amulet's bond and reveals a prophecy of a magical sword that can defeat Necromemnon. They are betrayed by Brisbayne and captured by the thief queen Grendul, but Doodad befriends swamp monsters to facilitate an escape. Deathstalker tricks Prince Baldur into a meeting, but is ambushed by Jotak. Brisbayne returns, kills both Deathstalker and the prince, and takes the amulet. The swamp monsters heal Deathstalker, who then raids Necromemnon's fortress. He frees Doodad, and they duel Necromemnon and Jotak. A rock fall injures Necromemnon, while Brisbayne is transformed into a vessel for the demon Citor. Deathstalker retrieves the prophesied sword, destroys Citor, and resurrects Brisbayne before finally defeating the Dreadites. He then attempts to destroy the sword, believing it too powerful for humanity.
