Full plot (contains spoilers)
Former BKA investigator Georg Dengler is asked for a favor by hacker expert Olga Illiescu, who helped him with his last case in Berlin. The Federal Criminal Police Office has assigned a new investigator to track her down, and he is now close on her heels. She is traveling by public bus from Berlin to Stuttgart when she contacts Dengler. Just before Stuttgart, he rushes to her aid on his motorcycle, and with the element of surprise on their side, they successfully escape from the officers. Illiescu goes into hiding at Dengler’s place and, in return, helps him find his missing son, Jakob, whose last known whereabouts lead to a factory farm owned by Carsten Osterhannes. Jakob’s classmate Laura and his friend Cem have also vanished without a trace. Dengler discovers that the three are animal-rights activists and have gotten into trouble. Dengler and Illiescu set off immediately, but by now the BKA has issued a wanted notice for him. The two manage to reach Berlin almost unnoticed, where Illiescu last tracked Jakob’s phone. As soon as they arrive in Berlin, the BKA has them in its sights. After Dengler is caught and ordered to reveal Illiescu’s whereabouts, the two ultimately outwit the BKA and escape. Dengler then continues on alone to the livestock farm, where he suspects his son is. When he arrives, the facility is ablaze. The reason is Osterhannes’s scheming. He employs cheap Romanian workers through a temporary staffing agency. After the Romanian worker Kimmi came into contact with Dengler’s son Jakob, he started a revolt against their working conditions. Osterhannes therefore hired Klaus Steiner and his gang of thugs to deal with the problem. During the ensuing violence, one of the Romanian workers was killed, and Steiner simply had him “disposed of” among the pigs. When Jakob, Laura, and Cem happened to show up at the livestock farm that very night, they became unwanted witnesses; they were discovered and held by Steiner. To put an end to the whole mess, which had completely gotten out of Steiner’s control, he plans to burn down the farm along with all the witnesses and evidence. Dengler arrives in time to stop him. He saves not only his son’s life, but the lives of everyone involved. Steiner escapes, but Osterhannes’s henchman shoots him when he demands his payment. Osterhannes himself is also ultimately brought to justice after he kills Kimmi simply because Kimmi demanded his unpaid wages and passport.
