The story
Gordon Bell, a dapper criminal who heads a counterfeiting ring, has been in love for some time with the aristocratic Hilde von Erbach. Though she is uninterested, he continues to pursue her. Hilde feels closely attached to Herr von Gandersheim, and Bell’s hostility toward his rival grows.

Gordon Bell is a dapper criminal who heads a counterfeiting ring. For some time, he has been in love with the aristocratic Hilde von Erbach. Despite her lack of interest, he pursues her. Hilde feels closely attached to Herr von Gandersheim. Bell feels ever-increasing hatred toward his rival, until one day he lies in wait for him and tries to stab him to death. In the attack, Hilde’s beloved is injured. Bell’s hotheadedness has made him careless, and the authorities also begin to get on his trail in connection with the counterfeit money. With the help of a detective, Hilde lures the criminal into a trap, so that he can be arrested and the counterfeiting ring broken up.
