Full plot (contains spoilers)

The angels rebel in Heaven against their boring robes. Like humans, they want to wear fashionable clothes. The angel Angelika is sent to Earth to take a look around at the fashion king Clemens Maria Weidenauer’s establishment in Vienna. When he sees Angelika, he is appalled by the unimaginative design of her angel costume and accidentally tears off one of her wings. Now she cannot return to Heaven unless she performs a good deed. She then meets the young composer Hans Lieven, who is so taken with her voice that he gets her an engagement at the theater. She is a great success, so Lieven is supposed to compose a waltz for her next performance. But he cannot come up with the masterpiece he needs. Exhausted, he falls asleep. When he wakes up, the sheet music for the “Heavenly Waltz” is lying beside him. The angel Angelika has now performed her good deed and can return to Heaven. But when the angels bring her new wings, she chooses Earth and love instead.
