Full plot (contains spoilers)
During the election campaign, Mayor Ursel Piepenkötter faces competition from fellow party member Dr. Schadt, who criticizes the planned construction of a mosque and even wants to run against her. The mayor now wants to reassure the public and looks for reasons to cancel the project. Her party colleague, meanwhile, has other plans: he makes a pact with conservative Osman. If they prevent the mosque from being built, he will be appointed hodja in return, and the current hodja will be removed. At a panel discussion, secretly recorded footage is meant to suggest that the hodja and the mayor had a rendezvous. But it shows acts of violence by the mosque’s opponents, because Osman’s wife had switched the recordings. The mayor, who now stands up for diversity, is once again a candidate, and even her son has grown closer to the hodja’s daughter.
