Full plot (contains spoilers)

Twelve-year-old Winnetou, the chief’s son, is full of energy and already considers himself a great warrior. However, his father, Intschu-tschuna, and the village elder both believe that Winnetou still has a lot to learn, including taking responsibility for others and controlling his temper. When the buffalo fail to appear and the Apaches face the threat of famine, Winnetou sees a chance to prove himself to his father. One night, he catches Tom Silver, an orphan of the same age, stealing horses, but does not hand him over to Sheriff Watson. Tom knows where the buffalo have gone. Together with Tom and with the support of his sister Nscho-tschi, Winnetou sets out on a dangerous adventure to save the Apache people. Along the way, they encounter, among others, the wanted outlaw Todd Crow.
