Full plot (contains spoilers)
Robert Hellkamp is a criminal investigator with the Lower Saxony State Criminal Police Office. A doctor has certified that he suffers from a so-called “crime-scene phobia,” making it difficult for him to visit places where crimes have been committed. He also refuses to carry a service weapon. This is, of course, not particularly helpful in his work as a State Criminal Police Office investigator. His colleagues often mock and ridicule him for it. Robert intends to retrain as a criminal profiler, but he still needs his supervisor’s approval. Robert unexpectedly meets Rita, a hairdresser. She is also dissatisfied with her job and wants to become a writer, but no one seems interested in the works she has written. The two fall in love at first sight. Then Rita’s daughter becomes involved in an unsolved murder case: Rebecca, the roommate of the shared apartment where Rita’s daughter lives, is found lifeless. She has fallen from the roof of a building. To support his new love, Rita, and her daughter, Robert suddenly displays unexpected abilities: to the astonishment of all his colleagues, he volunteers at his workplace to help investigate the circumstances of the death. Robert succeeds in clearing Rita’s daughter’s friend, who was initially suspected, and in establishing what happened. He also manages to prove that the father of Rebecca’s lover, who lives in the neighboring building, was responsible for her death; however, it was not murder. While trying to break up an argument and bring Rebecca to her senses, she fell from the roof of the shared apartment building due to an unfortunate accident. The film ends with Robert once again preventing an attempted murder and apprehending the perpetrator, while using his criminal-investigation expertise to help his new girlfriend become a successful crime novelist.
