Der Metzger traut sich (2023)

Restorer Willibald Adrian Metzger is about to marry the woman of his dreams, Danjela Djurkovic. But she leaves him at the altar and disappears without a word with a man he does not know, leaving Metzger devastated. Some time later, the television news reports the death of Dejan Sulemanjiu, son of clan boss Ibrahim Sulemanjiu. Dejan had recently been released from prison and is said to have died in a car accident. Dejan is the man Danjela disappeared with. Since the report mentions only one death, Adrian assumes that Danjela is still alive and may have been kidnapped. Danjela wanted to get married at Dornhauer’s because he still owed her something. Adrian and his friend, caretaker Petar Wollnar, want to find out exactly what. At Dornhauer’s, Metzger is overpowered by a circus troupe of performers, but manages to escape, with Kaplan pursuing him. Metzger had met Kaplan as Hürrem, an acquaintance of Danjela’s. On the police side, Major Pichlmayr and her colleague Michael Friedmann, recently transferred to Graz, are investigating the Sulemanjiu case. While Pichlmayr considers her colleague incompetent, he conducts his own investigation into Major Pichlmayr, who is working with Heribert Senekowitsch, a school friend of Metzger’s, and Kaplan. The three wanted to get Metzger to lead them to Danjela, and Kaplan had him bugged. After Friedmann shoots Pichlmayr in the woods at night, Kaplan shoots him, but he survives thanks to a bulletproof vest. Senekowitsch and Kaplan are also injured in the shootout with Friedmann. After escaping, Metzger comes across the injured Kaplan, the injured Senekowitsch, and his friend Wollnar, who tells him that Inspector Sarah Kaplan and Heribert Senekowitsch are undercover police officers who worked for Major Pichlmayr. Kaplan tells Metzger that Danjela wanted him to stay out of the whole affair. Senekowitsch does not want the seriously injured Kaplan taken to a hospital because he is afraid of Friedmann, who may be after the two of them and still intend to kill them. Metzger and Wollnar overhear a conversation suggesting that Ibrahim Sulemanjiu killed his son for treachery, and that Danjela, whose real name is Anjessa, is the daughter of clan boss Ibrahim. Friedmann takes Metzger prisoner and forces him to reveal that police officer Kaplan is in Metzger’s workshop. Friedmann then takes Metzger to clan boss Ibrahim Sulemanjiu. His son Dejan Sulemanjiu also appears there; his death had only been faked, and he shoots his father. As Friedmann tries to shoot Wollnar, Kaplan kills him with a shot to the head. Kaplan tells Metzger that Danjela wanted to protect Willibald because she knew she would find Dejan sooner or later and wanted him for herself. Dejan eventually learns from Danjela that she is his half-sister. At the circus, Senekowitsch and Dejan Sulemanjiu face off, and Senekowitsch shoots Dejan dead. Wollnar is then able to free Danjela and Willibald.
