An umbrella mix-up brings a wealthy American widow and a count together while each mistakes the other for a servant.
The story
Gisela Bark, a wealthy American widow staying in Germany, leaves behind her beloved umbrella, recognizable by its swan-shaped handle. Count zu Bretz finds it at the manicurist’s and decides to return it in person. When he visits Gisela’s home, he sees her working in the kitchen and assumes she is a housemaid. Concealing his own identity as a count, he introduces himself as chauffeur Fritz Neumann; Gisela likewise gives the name Betty Schulz and presents herself as a kitchen helper. He entrusts her with the umbrella for her supposed ladyship, and the two quickly hit it off and arrange to meet.
