Full plot (contains spoilers)
On a beautiful sunny day, Thomas, from class 4a, has to take the Berlin U-Bahn one stop as usual to get to school. But the day is too lovely to spend sitting at his school desk. So he decides to ride the U-Bahn a little farther and wander around Berlin. While doing so, he discovers an apartment fire and alerts the fire brigade. In this way, he becomes a lifesaver to two young children who were inside the apartment. When the firefighters try to write down his name, he runs away. The next day, the newspaper publishes an article about the heroic deed of the unknown boy, and his teacher discusses it in Thomas’s class, too. Thomas, however, cannot reveal himself, since he had lied to his teacher, saying that he had been unable to come to school the previous day because of a toothache. In the end, the fire brigade manages to track him down together with the two children he rescued. They want to thank him for what he did, and Thomas now admits that he skipped school and even lied to his teacher.
