A widowed mother of thirteen children must defend her home from a ceramics company—and the nephew sent to buy her land.

The story

Esther Ohling, a widow, lives with her five children and eight foster children in a house on land coveted by a ceramics and tableware company. The company wants the property for new factory buildings, arguing that expansion is necessary to avoid a takeover by Chinese competitors. Its owner sends his charming nephew, Leon, to convince Esther to sell. Their first encounter is unexpected: Leon finds her on a lonely forest road after her car breaks down. Though the two seem to be opposites, they begin seeing each other more often. Esther does not initially know that Leon’s mission is to acquire her property, while the house deteriorates and she cannot afford the repairs it needs.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Esther Ohling is the mother of five and also a foster mother to eight children. The widow lives with all thirteen children in a house on a plot of land that the owners of a ceramics and tableware company would like to acquire so they can build new factory buildings there. The expansion seems unavoidable, since otherwise the company risks being taken over by the Chinese ceramics industry. To get the purchase of the property underway, the company owner sends his charming nephew Leon to persuade Esther to sell. But their first meeting does not go as planned: Leon comes across Esther on a lonely forest road, where her car has broken down. The two realize that they are actually complete opposites; nevertheless, they start seeing each other more often. By then, however, Esther has not realized Leon’s real purpose: to acquire her property on behalf of his uncle. When she discovers his intentions, she refuses to sell, despite the fact that the house is increasingly falling into disrepair and she has no money for the urgently needed renovations. Leon, who grew up as an orphan with his uncle, recognizes how important a close-knit family is and has genuinely fallen in love with Esther. He takes Esther and her children’s side and prevents the sale of the property and the house.
