Der vierte Mann (2019)

Star violinist Philipp Baumgarten is kidnapped after a concert in Leipzig. His violin has also disappeared; it came from a violin maker’s workshop in Vienna. The Leipzig investigators therefore turn to their colleagues in Vienna to find out what role the violin played in the kidnapping. When the Viennese investigators try to speak with the violin maker, they find him badly injured. A little later, the kidnapped violinist is found alive in Leipzig. His statement enables them to identify the kidnapper: Kurt Lehrmann, the caretaker of Leipzig’s Gewandhaus. Before reunification, he was sentenced to twelve years in prison for manslaughter he had not committed, though four men had testified to it. But his motive for the kidnapping seems mysterious. When a retired banker is murdered in Vienna shortly afterward and the description of the perpetrator matches Kurt Lehrmann, it becomes clear that the Leipzig and Viennese colleagues will have to work together on this cross-border case.
