The story

Erell, a disillusioned young woman in a small provincial town, carries her digital camera everywhere among her family, needing to feel that she exists. Her sick mother rejects her despite the care Erell gives her, while her father is a non-confrontational, somewhat eccentric amateur entomologist. She passes time getting into scrapes with her friends Javier, Majeur and Gabin. Erell’s sister Sarah, who left suddenly for Paris and has given little or no news for almost four years, returns six months pregnant with her husband Antoine and moves into the family home. Erell tries to understand the closeness between Sarah and their parents, a bond she does not share.

Full plot (contains spoilers)

Erell, a disillusioned young woman living in a small provincial town, needs to feel that she exists with her digital camera, which she carries everywhere among her family. There is her sick mother, who rejects her despite the care Erell gives her; her father, an amateur entomologist who is non-confrontational and a little eccentric; and her friends Javier, Majeur and Gabin, with whom she passes the time getting into one scrape after another. There is also their circle: Duncan, a young Scot who helps his uncle Bob, who runs a snack shack; Berthe, the grandmother who gives a home to the grunge girl Marie-Antoinette, who looks after her; and Majeur’s uncle, who offers board and lodging. The only one missing is Erell’s sister Sarah, who suddenly left for Paris and has given little or no news for almost four years. She reappears six months pregnant and moves into the family home with her husband Antoine. Erell tries to understand where the closeness between her parents and her sister comes from, since she does not share in it. At last, the family manages to tell one another what they really think before Sarah and Antoine leave. Erell eventually leaves the family nest to finally change her life.
