The story
Some time after the events of Despicable Me 2, Gru and his wife Lucy are dismissed from the Anti-Villain League (AVL) by a new director. While Gru's Minions leave him to find new jobs, he receives an invitation from his long-lost twin brother, Dru, who lives in the wealthy country of Freedonia. Meanwhile, a former child star named Balthazar Bratt has become a supervillain and is seeking a powerful diamond to power a giant robot. Gru must navigate his complicated relationship with his brother while trying to stop Bratt's plan to destroy Hollywood.
Full plot (contains spoilers)
After being fired from the Anti-Villain League, Gru and Lucy find themselves in a predicament where their Minions abandon them. Gru receives a visit from his twin brother, Dru, a wealthy man who wants to learn how to be a villain. While the brothers bond, Balthazar Bratt—a disgruntled former child star—steals the Dumont Diamond to power a robot that will destroy Hollywood. After a series of conflicts and a temporary falling out between the brothers, they reunite to stop Bratt. They engage in a final battle where Dru sacrifices himself to power down the robot, and Gru defeats Bratt in a dance fight. The family is reunited, and while Gru and Lucy are reinstated in the AVL, Dru and the Minions fly off to continue their villainous pursuits.
