A former supervillain and his family must navigate a new threat from an old rival while dealing with a group of super-powered minions.
The story
Taking place after the events of Despicable Me 3 (2017), the film sees reformed supervillain and secret agent Gru temporarily relocating his family to a safe house when his old rival, Maxime Le Mal, seeks revenge. Meanwhile, some of Gru's Minions are augmented with superpowers from the Anti-Villain League (AVL), forming a superhero initiative known as the Mega Minions. The story follows Gru as he attempts to protect his family and his children from the escalating threat posed by Maxime's new inventions and the complications of the newly empowered Minions.

After a class reunion where he faces his old rival Maxime Le Mal, Gru is forced into hiding by the AVL. Maxime, who has enhanced himself with cockroach parts, seeks revenge by trying to use a ray gun to transform Gru's infant son, Gru Jr. The family is moved to a safe house where they meet their neighbors, the Prescotts. Their daughter, Poppy, tries to convince Gru to help her pull a heist to steal a mascot. During the chaos, Maxime and his girlfriend Valentina kidnap Gru Jr. Gru and Poppy team up to rescue the baby. In the final confrontation, Gru manages to break the brainwashing on Gru Jr., who then helps defeat Maxime. The film ends with the family returning home, the Minions being settled, and a peaceful resolution between the rivals.
