A Swiss grandmother confronts her medical-student granddaughter’s radicalization while reckoning with her own past involvement in terrorism.
The story
Medical student Anaïs lives in Switzerland with her grandmother, Isabelle. When Isabelle recognizes Anaïs veiled on a train, she tries to understand what is happening and prevent her granddaughter’s radicalization. The situation stirs memories of Isabelle’s own past involvement with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and the bombing of Swissair Flight 330 in 1970. The film’s setup places two generations’ experiences of political extremism alongside one another, as Isabelle confronts the danger she sees in Anaïs and the history she carries herself.
