Full plot (contains spoilers)

Michel, a former gangster, spends his “retirement” in a peaceful rural idyll. His daughter Marlène knows nothing about his criminal past, but Michel is forced by his old gangster associates to get back into an illegal business. His “friends” make it clear that they mean business: the young criminal Alain is tasked with following Michel and harassing him. But the film takes a turn when Alain falls in love with Marlène. When Michel makes it clear that he no longer wants to be drawn into any criminal dealings, Alain shoots him in the heat of the moment. The police are involved in the events and, in turn, shoot Alain as he is fleeing. Thus, Marlène loses both her father and her lover almost simultaneously.
