Full plot (contains spoilers)

To escape the orphanage after her parents’ deaths, little Tiffany claims during a robbery by the three robbers that she is the daughter of a rich Maharaja. The robbers kidnap her, intending to extort a ransom later, and take her to a cave, where they gradually become friends with her. At the orphanage, the evil aunt is in charge. She makes the orphans gather turnips during the day, while she herself spends all her time eating sweets. To get Tiffany back, she informs a gendarme, who has wanted posters printed; the robbers find them. Sadly, Tiffany sets off for the orphanage. As soon as she is gone, the robbers begin to feel bored and ashamed that they sent Tiffany away. They decide to set off for the orphanage too, despite their terrible memories of their time as orphans. On her way to the orphanage, Tiffany comes across the runaway children Gregory and Nikolas. While the coachman and the evil aunt discover the two runaways, Tiffany sneaks into the aunt’s room, which is crammed with cakes and sweets. From the balcony, she pelts the coachman and the aunt with cakes. When the three robbers appear, the aunt has had enough: she throws herself into the pot of turnip mash. The orphans buy the orphanage with the robbers’ money and live there with the robbers, building houses and three towers—one tower for each robber.
