Die Frau hinter der Wand (2013)

The young, shy student Martin is looking for a place to stay in Berlin and finds one in a dilapidated apartment. It contains the belongings and furniture left behind by his predecessor, Robert. The arrangement is handled through the caretaker and only goes through after he has sent a photo of Martin to the landlady. While searching through the apartment, Martin finds Robert’s personal effects. A phone number left behind leads him to the retiree, Mrs. Schaffrat. In the apartment opposite, which is plainly visible from his own, live his landlady Simone and her husband Sebastian. Martin finds a stethoscope and uses it to listen through the walls. At a meeting to sign the lease, Simone seduces Martin. He is overcome by growing curiosity. Martin has an affair with Simone, an artist, and her husband Sebastian reacts with jealousy and aggression. Martin runs errands for Mrs. Schaffrat. As the story unfolds, Martin keeps coming across the name Robert. Although he cannot find out any details, he suspects that Simone also had an affair with Robert. Finally, Martin discovers a concrete block in the neighboring apartment, with Sebastian’s body embedded inside it. Simone then tries to kill Martin.
